We take a non-pathologizing approach with neuro-affirming practice, social model of disability and reject the biomedical model of mental health.

The majority the client demographic hold multiple intersectional identities and/or experiences of neurodivergence (often ADHD, Autism, and/or AuDHD), disability, LGBTQIA+, CARM/CALD, trauma, and want to connect with a therapist who has experience navigating those complexities.

Role Description

We’re looking to expand for the first time to take on a contractor for a few hours across (to start with) on evenings and/or the weekend (specifics times/days negotiable). We’re looking for someone who can provide both telehealth and in-person counselling for individuals and relationship. This contract role involves conducting intake assessments, delivering regular counselling that align with anti-oppressive and social justice principles.

Our warm, non-clinical space located in Beverly Hills, NSW 2209 conveniently right next to the trains, bus stop, and untimed street parking. The hope is to grow this role to a 3+ day/week role as either a permanent employee or under a contractor service agreement, depending on your preference and circumstances.

This would probably be a great fit for an early to mid-career therapist who wants to explore entry to private practice but doesn’t need to depend on this role for their main income.

Essentials

  • Demonstrated skills in individual counselling, relationship counselling, and working with diverse relationship structures (e.g., couples, families, polycules, adult child-parent, friendships, etc).
  • Excellent ability for self-reflection, vulnerability, and critical thinking along with receptiveness to constructive feedback especially in supervision with such complex cases
  • Experience providing trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and culturally responsive therapeutic support, including work with marginalized and underrepresented communities.
  • Relevant training and experience as a counsellor, psychotherapist, peer worker, psychologist, or social worker, etc.
  • Strong abilities in assessment, case formulation, risk management, and documentation, including maintaining clear and accurate clinical notes.
  • Commitment to social justice, intersectional practice, and ongoing critical self-reflection around power, privilege, and systemic inequities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and boundary-setting skills, with the capacity to build collaborative, respectful therapeutic relationships.
  • Willingness to engage in regular supervision, continuing professional development, and learning related to anti-oppressive practice and ethical standards.
  • Ability to work independently on-site to manage a client caseload on evenings after 5pm and/or weekends
  • Own insurance and full working rights in Australia (no sponsorships available).

Desirable

  • Fluency to in a language other than English to deliver services in
  • Lived/living experience and experience using Peer Work principles and practices
  • Eligibility to be registered/Registration as a Victims Services Counsellor and interest in seeing a minimum number of such clients in your caseload as part of social justice commitment to equity of access
  • Experience in private practice or community mental health.
  • Experience supervising, coaching, or mentoring frontline staff and/or leadership.
  • Experience with NDIS participants, processes and billing
